bishounenawards is an icontest community for those interested in bishounen from anime, manga, and videogames and LiveJournal icons. This community is for icon makers as much as it is for those that just enjoy looking at and voting for icons. If you're interested in participating in the contests, please join the community to become a member. Do familiarize yourself with the rules, but most of all, have fun!

This is a condensed version of the rules for easy access, but it's important that you also read the userinfo as it goes into much higher detail about community rules. This is simply an overview.

Every Friday a new theme is posted. Members have one week to submit an icon that expresses the theme. Each member is allowed to submit one icon for each contest. We ask that you include the URL of your icon, the name of the character(s), and series along with your icon. We will inform you ASAP if your icon doesn't fit the theme so you will have time to enter a new one in its place if you wish. If during the week you decide you want to replace your current submission with a new icon, make a new comment on the submission post and tell us you're replacing your old one.

Please make sure your icon fits LiveJournal's criteria:
- No more than 100x100 pixels
- No more than 40kb
- Must be a .jpg, .gif, or .png

The following Friday the submitted icons are voted on for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as the weekly Special Category. The Special Category is chosen at random before the voting post is made. The five Special Categories are:

Most Creative: The icon that shows the most originality from the others through its cropping, blending, captioning, or typography, etc.

Best Adaption: The icon that represents the theme the best through both the chosen image and text.

Best Caption: The icon that has the best text content. This means the words' actual meaning matches the icon well. This can be well-chosen lyrics, a good phrase, or even a single, effective word. Don't confuse this with Best Typography!

Best Color: The icon that stands out from the rest color-wise. It has the most effective use of color, whether it's faded, vivid, monotone, or duotone, etc.

Best Typography: The icon with the best treatment of text regardless of text content. This applies to the physical appearance of the words on the icon and can include good use of dingbats. Good text placement also plays a role in good typography. Don't confuse this with Best Caption!

Voting will be open until Sunday when winners are posted. The first place winner will have their icon featured on the main page until the next week. All winners will each receive a custom banner made by one of our lovely banner makers. Our banner makers are:

If you think you missed your banner one week, just check in the memories. All theme, voting, winners, and banner posts are archived in the memories. All iconists' names are revealed (unless anonymity is requested) at the end of the contest as well as the character name/series, however we do not reveal the placement.

This layout features Dark from Sugisaki Yukiru's popular manga series D.N.Angel. Fonts used in this layout are Times New Roman, Georgia, Vivaldi, and VTC Switchblade Romance from dafont.com. All graphics and coding made by adaneko with Adobe Photoshop CS, Adobe ImageReady, and Notepad. Do not steal!

Optimized for 1024x768+, but viewable 800x600. Tested in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.
